BCU Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT)
$250, two full days
BCU certified coaches and trip leaders are expected to be able to competently rescue a variety of different types of paddle craft, in a variety of venues and situations. This course covers a broad spectrum of rescue scenarios, including some that are sometimes unfamiliar to sea kayakers.
There is a lot of material to cover in this class, and in the interest of thoroughly covering the curriculum, and having the time to fully address individual questions and concerns, Columbia River Kayaking's FSRT course now takes place over two days, instead of crammed into one very long day.
Expect to get wet and tired, and to have a lot of fun, as well as learning new tricks for rescuing your fellow paddlers, and smoothing out the rough spots in your existing toolbox of rescues.
This course is a prerequisite for all BCU coaching courses and leadership assessments. You can check out the official BCU syllabus for this course here.
