Wind and Waves
This is your next step if you?ve taken our Foundations course, or are working on your BCU 3-star, or are already comfortable in 2? wind waves but want to do it more gracefully. Boat control. Efficient maneuvering in conditions. Stamina, speed, and pacing. These are on our agenda.
Our 11-mile route explores the islands of the Lewis & Clark National Wildlife Refuge on an outgoing tide. In early afternoon, if the typical wind comes up, we?ll get wind against tide for a nice bumpy channel crossing. The Lower Columbia?s scenic Washington shoreline offers opportunity to thread between pilings and hug rocky shores, to ride eddies and to push around headlands.
While this is not a navigation course, environmental awareness will be built in. Think navigational big picture, without getting lost in numbers and calculations.
